A friend shared this quote on Facebook last week and of some reason it really resonated with me! It got me thinking- how often do we give a fuck about things that don’t set our soul on fire?
I saw this one evening as I was walking through the door, coming home from the gym after work.
Waiting for me in the kitchen sink was our muffin pan- I had used it to make something over the weekend and my cooking had got stuck in the pan and didn’t come off in the dishwasher, so I had left it soaking in the sink during the day. The last thing that I felt like doing was scrubbing that damn pan to get the remnants of my baking out of it! So with this quote in mind, I threw the pan in the bin….. it was old anyway and starting to rust on the bottom. I can get a new one from Kmart for all of about $7 and save my fucks for something magical! This is a really small example of what the quote meant to me, and I have been thinking about it a lot since.
We spend a lot of out time focussing on things that aren’t that important- things that don’t set our souls on fire; things that in the future we won’t look back and remember as being super-important to us, things that we won’t even remember or care about in the future, things that we will look back on and wonder why we even gave so much of a fuck.
So save your fucks for something magical! Save your fucks for yourself and what matters to you. Save them and give a fuck about yourself, your health and wellbeing, your hobbies; your family and loved ones; your job; your pet, or whatever else sets your soul on fire and means the world to you. Save your fucks for that and don’t waste them on trivial shit!
